Eggs on the Beach: A Successful 9th Annual Big Green Egg Cooking Competition

The 9th Annual Big Green Egg cooking competition, Eggs on the Beach, was tremendously successful. Held at Seascape Towne Center on October 14, the event featured 22 cook teams competing for cash, prizes, and trophies. Their creative culinary creations included alligator, venison, and lamb dishes. The generous donations from Bay Breeze Patio and those in attendance totaled an impressive $44,500, with proceeds divided among the nonprofit cook teams and two benefiting charities: Food for Thought and Fisher House of the Emerald Coast. Both charities were presented with an $18,500 donation to support their mission.

Three of the 22 cook teams earned bragging rights and cash donations for their respective nonprofits. In first place was Healing Paws for Warriors, partnered with Swiftly Catered, presenting a Trinidad Spice Pork Tenderloin, Bourbon Caramel Balsamic Apple with a Grilled Pear Cobbler with Sweet Potato Pone Cake with Candied Pecans & Bourbon Cane Syrup, which earned them a grand prize of $3,500. Second place went to South Walton Academy The Eggstras presenting Bacon Wrapped Venison with Banana Pepper for a donation of $2,500, and third place was awarded to The Brotherhood of Distinguished Gentleman: Walton County Juvenile Justice presenting Smoked Brisket on Biscuit with Pickled Onion, earning them a $1,500 donation. Congratulations to all the teams for their delicious culinary creations and exemplary efforts in providing a successful event!

The announcement was made with great pride that ‘Keggs Over Easy’ secured the first-place position at the Big Green Egg cook-off. The winning dishes were their Texas Twinkies jalapeno bites and Angels Envy Texas Tea, which garnered the most taster votes and earned them a Large Big Green Egg. Saltwater Restaurants and Team Indyne & RT&T Technology shared the second place, impressing with their Smoked Gulf Shrimp and Pineapple with Angels Envy Teriyaki Glaze and Bourbon Smoked Pineapple Smash, and Cajun Gulf Shrimp and Sausage with Angels Envy Remoulade and Angels Envy dessert paired with Angels Envy Stone Fence Cocktail respectively. Both these teams were honored with a medium Big Green Egg each. Captain’s Choice took third place with their Smoked Brisket and was recognized for their efforts with a Mini-Max Big Green Egg.

The judges also awarded an honorable mention to ‘Nice Racks’ for their BBQ Sandwich Shot. The esteemed honorary judges included Chef Jude Tauzin, corporate chef for Tony Chachere’s (Acadia, LA); Chef Dan Dederous, corporate chef for Hilton Sandestin; Nikki Nickerson, founder of Cowgirl Hospitality Group; Carrie Honaker, Florida Food & Travel Writer; and Chef Chad Donelson of Bitterroot.

It was a proud moment for all participants, as the event proceeds benefited The Fisher House of the Emerald Coast and Food for Thought.
